Let me take a guess..... the v2 (now the older goggles) won't work with this new Avata... or will they? (still hoping the v2 goggles will be compatible with the Mini 3 at some point.)

It's currently compatible with the DJI Goggles 2 and DJI FPV Goggles V2. You can find a package to purchase the Avata with either here.

About same size an weight as my current “toy”.
The full controller from FPV was a compatible and a have a few of them so don’t mind only having the motion controller

You have to really be doing something wrong to crash with the motion controller. It’s my go to for letting people with no skills have a fly
