Hey everyone,
I’m looking to tap the community’s experience here. I’m exploring platforms for confined space inspections — places like refinery interiors, tanks, vessels, and other tight, low-light, low-GPS areas.
I’ve been looking closely at the DJI Avata 2, and based on what I’ve seen in a couple of YouTube videos, it seems to be a durable and stable platform for this kind of work:
I’m aware that purpose-built systems like the Elios are ideal if the ROI justifies it, and the Terra X looks strong too, but I’m curious about practical, real-world insights from folks using the Avata 2 or similar FPV-style drones for inspections.
Some points I’d love input on:
The goal here is to share knowledge and learn from others’ experience — I’d really appreciate hearing what’s worked for you, what hasn’t, and any lessons learned for safe, confident inspections in challenging spaces.
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Some points I’d love input on:
- How has the Avata 2 handled vision-based navigation in dark or confined areas?
- Any tips on stability, lighting, or sensor setup for reliable inspection flights?
- How does it compare to other platforms you’ve used in similar environments?
