So I'm building a drone for a school project but for some reason when I try to increase the throttle for the motors in Betaflight, nothing happens. I'm trying to configure my ESC right now because thats where I think the problem lies but for some reason the BLHeli_S can't find my ESC. I am using a HGLRC Zeus45A V2 BLHeli_S 3-6S 20x20mm 4in1 Electronic Speed Controller ESC DSHOT1200 (I just copied and pasted directly from Amazon but apparently on the actual HGLRC website it says DSHOT600 so I don't actually know which one to put) and I think it isn't fried since it lets out three beeps when I plug the battery in and the motors all twitch a bit but other than twitching a little bit the motors can't move. I also haven't installed a receiver yet but is that really necessary if I just want to move the motors through Betaflight? What should I do if I want to make the motors spin?

If you get just three beeps and not all five beeps when powering on, then the flight controller is most likely not properly connected to the ESC board. Try looking at the ribbon cable between the two boards and the correct pinout diagrams, etc. You're right. You shouldn't need an RX in order to test motors in beta flight's motors tab but the FC does have to be talking to the ESC, Five total beeps.
