Hey Wayne, I like building my own drones. I've really gotten into it since watching & reading a lot of material online. But mostly because I've seen prebuilt RTF stuff out there that just doesn't have good quality control at the factories where they are assembled. Plus, I like the overall feel of accomplishment at the end when you're done with it and it flies great! I recently bought my son an Eachine Wizard 220 (because I know he's not really a good builder). He'll be stoked when it comes in. If you're gonna build custom, you're gonna just have to experiment though. I burnt out a lot of ESCs just testing different ones (mostly generic brands - Haha). But I've been ordering a LOT of parts through Banggood.com. They may take long to ship, but their prices are hella low and mostly free shipping. So far my favorite frame kits from them are the Martian II 250mm ($32) and the TransTEC Frog lite 220mm ($28). Good values if you wanna do scratch builds.
