Can not fly backwards with DJI Motion Controller?

After over 50 years flying with thumbs I had my first few flights with the motion controller. Very interesting. It was very relaxing actually. I can see though how you would not want to use it in real tight situations as it does not seem quite as precise as the sticks, which leads me to this question:

No backwards flight with the Motion Controller? I tried every which way to no avail?

Perhaps. Having flown with it a lot, I think providing a means to go backwards would be very high risk. Unlike with sticks, the 4 control directions are not well isolated, making it very hard to avoid L/R turn input. You'd have to use the little green dot attitude indicator, keep it centered perfectly.

Easier to just yaw 180, then fly out forward.

And no, this control method is definitely not meant for tight, slow exploration. It's for the kind of experience I've posted video here of, and flying backwards simply isn't an issue. You've got the included RC for that.
