I got this about a week ago... I had a mavic air.
in N/S mode, the drone flies pretty much the same as any mavic.
the FPV view feels really natural, I got a little bit motion sick on my first couple of flights (and in the simulator) when doing tighter turns.
but with every flight (and some time in the sim) it got better, and now Im fine.
whats nice about the DJI FPV, is S mode has a few features, which allow you to start prepping yourself to go M (manual) mode (if thats what you want)
so , you can take it nice and slow, at your own pace.
the pause button is fantastic, since if you get disoriented, you can tap it, to give yourself a breather.
if you want to go to manual mode, again you can take it step by step
what I did was :
I first started by trying to use the iOS DJI Flight Sim with goggles, but I found myself getting motion sick after a while.
so I did small session in N/S mode in it, to let my brain adapt to the motion.
in parallel I started practicing on Velocidrone (using fpv controller, but not goggles) this was really good for getting used to the new stick controls,
it was pretty cool, since you can start off in Level mode, which is a bit assisted, then move to Rate mode (manual)
(.. and since it was on a screen, I could be all over the place without getting motion sick
)
once I got myself to a point where I was pretty stable, I started using the iOS DJI Sim with Goggles in manual mode
this worked, as by now my brain was used to the movement in the goggles so I wasn't getting motion sickness, and also I had enough control in M mode to not be spinning out of control all the time ... this step helped me, feel comfortable in M mode within FPV.
I was now confident enough, to try on the real drone.
I took her up high, flipped to manual and was easily able to just cruise around in M mode.... (*)
of course, a long way off doing low runs and going thru obstacles, but from here, I just need to put in the time, practice and gain confidence... slowly, slowly.
but in less than 1 week, I was flying in M mode , so it was not that hard really... (**)
(*) I did get one thing 'wrong' here... I was very keen to try M mode, and it was a bit winder than would have been ideal... and going up high, of course, meant even more wind
this was something Id not even thought about practicing in the sim.. it wasn't really a problem... and really demonstrated to me, how different it is flying in M mode, since N/S are automatically compensating for wind and gusts.
(**) of course, how long it takes will vary from person to person, and also how much flying and sim time you have available.
