M mode questions

After over 10 years of commercially flying GPS stabilized drones (boring) I have made the jump to FPV with this cool little aircraft.

I am just now flying in M mode and I have a few questions:

I adjusted the throttle stick as recommended and I no longer have the spring return but there is a lot of drag when I move the stick…I have tried adjusting the F1 and F2 screw but neither seem to reduce this

I also get this graphic in my goggles and I move the sticks as recommended but it frequently will not go into M mode…. perhaps these two problems are related.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and this thing is a real hoot to fly

Drag is adjusted with the screw on the "inner" side, unscrew for less drag.

To switch to M you have to bring the sticks in the green zones and basically let go of them for about one second until it confirms, it's easy to be pushing the right stick a tiny bit off center and it won't switch.
