Help with R9M/R9 Mini OTA with Mamba F722

I've got my R9M bound to my R9 Mini. Both transmitter and receiver have latest access firmware. I had s.port of receiver wired to TX1 pad of FC and got no transmitter control showing up in betaflight.
I've also tried using sbus through the RX1 pad and still nothing.
Can anyone help in setting this up. Do I need to use s.port to TX1 or sbus to RX1
I have no idea what to do.

Is the FLEX version of the r9 firmware needed? I've got 1.3 firmware on both trans and rec
And I assume I use the S.port/f.port on my mini to a tx pad on FC?
Still getting nothing.

Update: After more searching I found that I needed to switch protocol from sport to fport within the radio settings.
I seem to be getting stick response now, although my quad is spinning in circles on here, I assume some calibration needs to be done.
